Hand painted Speeder

That was a fun weekend. Finished it up last night. I ended up just doing everything by hand. There's no bakes or grunge overlays. Just enjoyed straight painting. :)

I didn't do any fancy rendering or lighting I just took a full bright shader and grabbed directly from Maya.


Ok one render. It's hand painted with no fancy materials so it doesn't exactly look photo real but I still can't resist.

Feeling like something different

Was feeling inspired and I wanted to make something different. Doing a hand painted low poly version of the new speeder from the Star Wars Episode 7 teaser :)

Some WIP

I will be doing a mix of probably zbrush and running height map through crazy bump (I don't have Ndo :( cause I'm broke) to get some AO bakes but the goal is no photo usage at all and no normals.



About 6 hours in I finished the low poly. (after these shots were taken) I was aiming for 4k and landed on 4182 tris

More Void Star art

Also we came up with a name for the board game I'm working on! Void star! which sounds pretty dope.

I figured out the logo for it that we will put on the box and other things. Also made our ship pieces. These will be printed out on single tiles about 1 inch. Still have some damage states to make but it's getting there. Also some of the earlier ships at the bottom could use some love :-/

Now I think I'm done

I pushed it further into exploring better rendering and making the most out of my maps. I think I got it to a much better place than I did have it. I'm fussing over it now so that's probably a good sign it's time to stop and move on to something new.

Re-working textures

Still figuring out the basics of texture creation for PBR. Got a lot of it figured out now but just need re-build some things. About half way there now... My metalness map was wrong and there was no need for specular with both metalness and rough.

Low Poly done and initial bake

I've been super busy on my house but I have managed to get a few hours each night. I decided to re-topo everything again since I wasn't getting the quality I wanted from the bakes and I wanted to get the most I could out of the UV space. Will be doing a reflection map pass next and basically all the fun texture work for PBR in tool bag or maybe Unreal. Have yet to bake everything out yet.
